Huchuy Qosqo Trek to Machu Picchu - 3 Days

The walk to Machu Picchu along the Huchuy Qosqo Route is one of the shortest in Cusco since an average of 17 kilometers is covered on foot. This route was designed for those people who do not have much time but still want to take a walking tour before reaching the great Inca city of Machu Picchu. Ideal for people who like to contact nature outside the bustling city.

During the walk, we will have the opportunity to see vestiges of Inca constructions, some Inca stairways, and small doors with Inca decorations until we reach Huchuy Qosqo, an ancient Inca royal palace. Huchuy Qosqo is a Quechua word that means Small Cusco; it is located in the mountains of the Sacred Valley of the Incas.

From this point, you can appreciate the impressive panoramic view of the entire Vilcanota mountain range with its imposing snow-capped peaks.

We will observe beautiful natural landscapes, some Andean communities, and the Laguna de Qoricocha (golden lagoon) during our tour.

Then we will arrive at the community of Pumamarca (3,980 m / 13,057,743 ft); from here, we will be able to appreciate the impressive Sacred Valley of the Incas. We continue ascending until we reach León Punku (Lion Gate).

In this place, you will be able to appreciate mysterious rock formations. And finally, we will arrive at the archaeological complex of Huchuy Qosqo (3,450 m / 11,318,898 ft); in this place, we will spend the night in our camp.

Day 2: Huchuy Qosqo - Lamay - Aguas Calientes.

After our breakfast, we will have our guide through the archaeological complex of Huchuy Qosqo; then, we will have free time to photograph the beautiful panorama where we are and explore the place on our own. To then start our walk that lasts approximately 2 hours.

After a short tour, we will have our respective lunch and a short rest. In the afternoon, our bus awaits us to take us to the train station in Ollantaytambo, where we will board our train to the town of Aguas Calientes (Machu Picchu), for an average of two hours.

Upon arrival at the village of Aguas Calientes, we will go to the hotel to rest; the town offers all the basic needs, such as restaurants, places to buy, ATMs located at the foot of the Machu Picchu mountain.

Here we will have a guided tour of the most critical areas of this incredible Inca City, such as the agricultural and urban area, the magnificent temple of the sun, ceremonial plazas, sacred fountain, the Intihuatana or solar clock and terraces from where we will contemplate the domains of the Inca.
