Humantay Lake + Machu Picchu Trek – 2 Days

Discover the beautiful Humantay Lake and Salkantay Mountain on your way to Machu Picchu on this 2-day tour. Explore the picturesque scenery of Peru as you hike to Humantay Lake and stand at the base of the imposing Salkantay Mountain. Then head to the famous Inca citadel of Machu Picchu and learn about the history of the Incas as you admire the panoramic views of the jungle ruins.

On this two-day adventure, you enjoy the peacefulness of nature and at the same time its exquisite beauty.

We will pass through your respective hotel to pick you up between 4:00 to 4:30 am. Then we will travel in our private transport to Mollepata village for 2 hours approximately. After getting to Mollepata, we have breakfast to get the energy; we will continue our journey towards Soraypampa (3900m) (1-hour approx by car).

We will begin our trek to Humaytay lake, located at 4200m; after the walk for 1 hour and 30 min, we will see the fantastic Apu Humantay Lake considered a sacred mountain in Incan mythology. You can rent a horse to get to the lake; after visiting this important place, we will return to Mollepata and have lunch.

After lunch, we will take our transport to Ollantaytambo your train will depart at 7.00 or 9:00 pm to Aguas Calientes, a 2-hour journey.

To best appreciated Machu Picchu, we’ll wake up early in the morning so we can get to the citadel in good time. You’ll have time for breakfast first, and then your guide will pick you up from the hotel at around 5:40 a.m. We’ll then walk to the bus departure point for the short but zigzagging ascent up the road to Machu Picchu.
We’ll then pass through the gates into the Machu Picchu archaeological site. Here you’ll begin your guided walking tour with an experienced and highly knowledgeable guide.

Our tour of Machu Picchu will last about two hours and will take you to all the most famous and most spectacular parts of the extensive archaeological complex. These include the House of the Guardian, Intihuatana, Temple of the Sun, Sacred Plaza, and other vital locations. And as we walk around, we’ll have spectacular views across the agricultural terraces of Machu Picchu and across to the surrounding mountains and plunging gorges. After the guided tour, you’ll have time to explore Machu Picchu as you please, perhaps walking to some less visited parts such as the Inca Bridge.

Once we’ve finished our tour of Machu Picchu, we’ll take the bus back down to Aguas Calientes, where you can relax and have lunch (not included) before we board the train back to Ollantaytambo and Cusco. Upon arrival at the station, we’ll be waiting to take you back to your hotel in Cusco, where you can think back to your incredible tour of one of the world’s most famous and most impressive attractions.
