Your full-day trip to Machu Picchu begins early in the morning when we’ll pick you up from your hotel in Cusco. We’ll then drive to the train station in Ollantaytambo, where you’ll board the Expedition train to Aguas Calientes, the town that sits below Machu Picchu. It’s a beautiful train journey, following the sacred Vilcanota River and passing by ancient villages, lush landscapes, and snow-capped mountains.
When you arrive at Aguas Calientes (also known as Machu Picchu Pueblo), your local guide will meet you at the train station and take you to the bus for the scenic ride along the switchback road that leads up the mountain to Machu Picchu.
After this short bus ride, you’ll arrive at the gates of Machu Picchu. You and your highly knowledgeable guide will enter the Inca citadel, and you’ll set off on your three-hour guided tour. You’ll see all the most famous and spectacular parts of the extensive archaeological complex. These include the House of the Guardian, the Intihuatana, the Temple of the Sun, the Sacred Plaza, and other vital locations. And as you walk around, we’ll have spectacular views of the agricultural terraces of Machu Picchu and across to the surrounding mountains and plunging gorges. After the guided tour, you’ll have more time to explore Machu Picchu on your own.
Later, in the afternoon, you will leave Machu Picchu and take the bus back down to Aguas Calientes, where you can have lunch in one of the many restaurants (not included). Then you will board the train back to Ollantaytambo. When you arrive in Ollantaytambo, we’ll be there to pick you up and take you back to your hotel in Cusco.
