Maras and Moray are two unique attractions located within a short distance of each other, creating the perfect half-day tour in the Sacred Valley of the Incas. Maras are famous for their salt evaporation ponds, which have been used since at least Inca times. Moray, meanwhile, is an Inca archaeological site that looks like something straight out of a sci-fi movie.
Built as an agricultural laboratory of sorts, it consists of several large terraced circular depressions used to test crop production in various microclimates. Together, these two sites provide one of the fascinating spectacles in the Cusco Region.

If cycling at a high altitude sounds like too much effort, then come with us as we visit Maras and Moray as part of an ATV (quad bike) adventure! We’ll pick you up at your hotel at around 07h00 and then drive to the salt evaporation ponds at Maras (for safety reasons, we can’t drive the quad bikes down the sharply-bending road to Maras).
After visiting the salt ponds, we’ll head straight to the garage near Cruzpata, where our bikes are stored. Your guide will give you a few lessons about how to drive the ATVs, and then you’ll have 10 minutes or so to practice. And then we’re off! We’ll drive through spectacular scenery, stopping to take pictures of the magical mountains, glaciers, traditional villages, and other scenes of Andean life.
Our next stop will be Moray, where you’ll have a guided tour of the fantastic Inca agricultural terraces. We’ll spend about 20 minutes exploring the site, and then we’ll head to a lookout point that offers stunning vistas of five glaciers. After that, we’ll ride on to the beautiful Piuray Lagoon with its many birds and then to another lookout point with sweeping panoramas across the Andean landscape.
Our final stop will be at Huaypo Lagoon, where we’ll have more opportunities to see some of the local flora and fauna. After eating our packed lunch in these natural surroundings, we’ll hop back onto our quad bikes for the return trip to the garage. We should get there at around 3:30 p.m., where our transport back to Cusco will be waiting. We’ll then take you back to Cusco and drop you off very close to the Plaza de Aromas.
