Uros – Taquile & Amantani Islands – 2 Days

The floating islands of Uros are a series of artificial islands on the Titicaca Lake, on the Peruvian side, created by the Uros. The Uros were an ethnic group previous to the Incas, originating from Lake Uro-Uro in Bolivia, who, to get away from the Inca wars, took refuge in Lake Titicaca.

First, constructing totora boats, a plant found in abundance on the shores of the easiest navigable lake in the world. As time passed, the experience they were winning led them to build artificial islands, become a member of their boats, and then expand them using the totora.

These islands reach up to 3 meters thick and are in the regular renovation because the natural substances with which they are constructed are degraded. Currently, there are around 82 artificial islands, where in everyone lives a family, and every island has a boss.

In addition, there are community islands, where, for example, there is a church, soccer field, amongst others.
