Your tour begins with a 6:30 AM pickup from your hotel in Ica, setting off on a scenic drive through the desert landscapes toward Nazca, about an hour and a half away. En route, we’ll stop to observe the Cara del Inca, a rock formation that resembles a face carved into the foothills of the Andes Mountains, creating a striking natural landmark.
Our journey continues to the Palpa Viewpoint, where you’ll get your first glimpse of the famous Nazca Lines. From this elevated viewpoint, you’ll be able to see some of the ancient geoglyphs that cover the desert floor, sparking intrigue and amazement.
Next, we’ll visit the Maria Reiche House Museum. Here, you’ll learn about Maria Reiche’s groundbreaking research on the Nazca Lines, as well as her dedication to preserving these enigmatic drawings. Through stories and exhibits, you’ll gain insight into the life and work of this pioneering researcher.
We’ll then head to the Nazca Lines viewpoint at kilometer 423 of the Panamericana Sur highway, where you’ll have another opportunity to view the Nazca geoglyphs and gain a better understanding of their scale and layout in the desert landscape.
Our next stop is the ancient Inca fortress Los Paredones. You’ll explore the ruins of this historic site, learning about its strategic significance and how it got its name.
Afterward, we’ll head to the Cantalloc Aqueducts, a system of underground channels used by the ancient Nazca people to transport water in the arid desert. You’ll marvel at the ingenuity of these ancient engineers as you learn about their advanced techniques for water conservation.
In Nazca, we’ll take a break for lunch, allowing you to recharge with a meal at your leisure (lunch not included). Afterward, we’ll visit the House of Ceramics in the heart of Nazca, where you’ll see how traditional pottery techniques are still practiced, connecting you to the craftsmanship of the ancient Nazca culture.
The tour concludes with a comfortable drive back to Ica, arriving at your hotel between 5:30 PM and 6:00 PM.
