Ica – Tacama Vineyard – El Catador Winery – Ica
Your journey begins with a convenient pickup from your hotel in Ica or Huacachina. We’ll set off for our first stop, the historic Tacama Vineyard, which dates back to the 16th century and is considered the oldest vineyard in Peru and one of the oldest in South America. Upon arrival, you’ll have a chance to explore the ancient hacienda and climb the viewing tower to enjoy sweeping views of the surrounding vineyards, where hectares of grapevines stretch across the landscape.
During your visit to Tacama, you’ll tour both the old and new production facilities, gaining insight into the modern and traditional techniques used to create their wines and piscos. After the tour, you’ll enjoy a tasting session, sampling some of Tacama’s finest wines and piscos.
Next, we’ll travel to El Catador, a vineyard known for its traditional pisco-making process. Here, you’ll learn about the unique methods that give pisco its distinctive flavor, including the use of large clay jars called “botijas” for fermenting grape juice during the March harvest season. You’ll have the opportunity to explore the distillery, where you’ll see the final steps in the production of Peru’s beloved spirit. Of course, your visit will conclude with a tasting of both pisco and wine.
Afterward, you’ll have the option to enjoy a quick lunch at one of the wineries (at your own expense), where traditional regional dishes are served, providing a delicious end to your exploration of Peru’s rich pisco culture.
